Sam Whittam

Sam Whittam was born and educated in England, studying English Literature and Creative Writing at university. His international journey began in South Korea, where he spent two years teaching English to young learners. In 2010 he moved to Türkiye to continue his teaching career. He has taught English as a second language to learners of all ages; from kindergarten to university students and adults. His experience spans both the private sector and primary and secondary schools in Türkiye. In 2017, Sam embarked on a career in English as a Second Language publishing, working as a Teacher Trainer and Educational Consultant. He provided guidance and support to teachers across Türkiye through meetings, group training sessions, and conference presentations. During the COVID pandemic, he further developed his skills in content writing and course development, creating English Language Teaching materials and writing Teacher’s Guides. In 2022, Sam became the lead on The Globals, an English language learning platform designed to promote English proficiency through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2024, The Globals won the British Council’s ELTons Award for Excellence in Course Innovation. The platform was also a finalist for the BETT Awards in both 2024 and 2025. Through his work with schools in Türkiye, Sam has seen the difference that the SDGs and ESD can make on local communities and is committed to building on this to create a global impact. Sam is deeply committed to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Schools Program. He believes that young people can drive meaningful change by setting an example for others.
